PADI Launches Women’s Dive Day to Celebrate Female Divers

Womens Dive DayPADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), the world’s largest dive training organization, today announced its inaugural Women’s Dive Day on Saturday, July 18, designed to build increased awareness and interest in the sport of scuba diving among women. The international event is geared to get as many women as possible, at every level, diving on the same day. To bring the event to life, PADI is collaborating with women dive groups, female industry icons, and PADI Dive Centers and Resorts around the globe to host events on almost every continent.

Womens Dive Day“We’ve seen significant growth in the female diver population over the last six years, with PADI certifying nearly 30,000 more female divers worldwide in 2014,” said Kristen Valette, vice president marketing and communications, PADI Americas. “We feel there’s still a lot we can do to enlighten women about the myriad opportunities diving affords. Our goal with Women’s Dive Day is to highlight the significant and meaningful contributions women divers have made to the sport in the hopes of encouraging more women to explore the underwater world.”

From Hollywood stuntwoman, Miss Scuba founder and PADI Course Director Szilvia Gogh, to accomplished underwater photographer and newly inducted Women Divers Hall of Fame member Amanda Cotton, female dive icons from all walks of life have committed to participating in events.

PADI Americas and the Corporate Offices at PADI Worldwide will host the headlining event on Santa Catalina Island in Avalon, California, on July 18, at 10 a.m. The day will be filled with prize giveaways, multiple guided dives and gear demonstrations, as well as a recognition ceremony for women completing their certification courses. Several dive industry manufacturers have also

committed to supporting the first annual event and will be available on site, including Cressi, Scuba Pro, Diving Unlimited International (DUI), Huish Outdoor (Bare and Zeagle) and Sherwood Scuba.

While the focus of the event is women and their accomplishments, everyone is encouraged to get involved. Men can introduce female friends and family members to the sport they love, and women can share the wonders of diving with others on this celebratory day.
